Why You Should Make East Dallas Home

Local

If you're looking for big-city amenities with a small-town vibe, then East Dallas is the perfect area for you to call home. With a mixture of modern-day architect and old city history, the area surrounding White Rock Lake has become one of the premier locations in Dallas for families to call home. Here are the top reasons why you should make your next move be to East Dallas.

White Rock Lake

Located five miles northeast of downtown Dallas, White Rock Lake is a 1,015-acre lake that is considered the ‘Crown Jewel’ of the Dallas park system. It has over nine miles of hiking and biking trails which play a part in the annual BMW Dallas Marathon. There’s plenty of picnic areas to spend your warm days, a dog park, boat piers and pavilions for rent. White Rock Lake is truly a park that everyone can enjoy.

Lakewood Tour of Homes

Each fall the Lakewood Early Childhood PTA (LECPTA) hosts their annual Lakewood Tour of Homes. The candlelight tour features seven Lakewood area homes and an auction party. The community-wide event raises funds for the three local public schools, Lakewood Elementary, J.L. Long Middle School and Woodrow Wilson High School.

Fourth of July Parades

For more than 50 years, the Lakewood community has come together to host their annual Fourth of July parade to celebrate America’s birthday. Children and adults alike enjoy dressing up and creating floats to display down the route. On the other side of the lake, Little Forest Hills recently started their own parade. Taking place for more than 15 years now, their parade puts a little bit of a spunky spin on the celebration.

History

East Dallas has been cultivating its community for more than 125 years. From the historical district on Swiss Avenue to the Lakewood Theater, and The Lakewood Country Club, the original site of the Byron Nelson Golf Tournament, every street you walk down holds a piece of history.

As an East Dallas resident, I love getting to raise my family here. We enjoy bike rides around the lake and staying active at our local church. As an East Dallas REALTOR®, the best part of my job is getting to showcase this great area to new residents. I’m grateful for this community and I consider myself lucky getting to call it home.
