Lakewood is an East Dallas neighborhood adjacent to White Rock Lake. The neighborhood gets its name from the Lakewood Theater which opened in 1938 with the movie Love Finds Andy Hardy. Throughout the Lakewood neighborhood, you’ll find popular restaurants, shopping, historical landmarks, Lakewood Country Club, and the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Gardens.

The Lakewood neighborhood was developed in the early 20th century and is made up of the Lakewood Heights, Junius Heights Historic District, Park Estates, North Stonewall Terrace, Caruth Terrace, Wilshire Heights, Mockingbird Heights, Mockingbird Meadows, The Gated Cloisters, Hillside, Lakewood Hills, Hollywood Heights and Belmont neighborhoods. There are a large number of historic and conservation districts reflecting the remarkable Craftsman, Prairie-Four Square, Tudors, Spanish, Mediterranean Eclectic and Ranch Style homes. Many are made of native Austin stone.

One of the highlights of living in the Lakewood neighborhood includes the colossal Fourth of July Parade and Celebration. It is considered one of the best parades outside of Washington DC. The Early Childhood PTA also raises money each year for Lakewood Elementary with the Fall Home Festival and Tour.
