University Park

University Park started as a small group of homes surrounding Southern Methodist University in 1915. The school supplied the homes with utility service, but the growing population soon became too much for the school. After being denied annexation into the town of Highland Park and the city of Dallas, the town of University Park was founded in 1924. Since the 1940s the population of University Park has grown to over 23,000 residents.

The city prides itself on providing and maintaining a secure residential atmosphere. It has been listed as the #1 “Best Suburb” by D Magazine in 2002, 2004, and 2008. It finished #4 in 2014. The score is based on education, housing, safety and ambiance.

University Park feeds into the Highland Park school district.
